The 2K was a Formula One-inspired ground effect Indycar designed by Briton John Barnard. Debuting in 1979 with driver Al Unser Sr., it went on to win six races in 27 starts over three seasons. Its greatest success came in 1980, when Johnny Rutherford won both the Indy 500 and the CART championship.
Barnard created a conventional bonded and riveted aluminium monocoque chassis. At the front, lower wishbones and top rockers were fitted while the rear-end sported double wishbones. The Chaparral 2K was powered by an F1 Based Cosworth-built V8 engine limited by regulation to 2.65 litres, and equipped with a single turbocharger producing in excess of 700 bhp. This was fed to the rear wheels through a Weismann four-speed gearbox.
This Model has an engine cover that is made as a seperate componant, which is removable to reveal a detailed engine, gearbox and suspension.
