Application:
My underwater dome isn’t weighted, so it needs to be anchored or it will float away.
I’m installing 6-8 removable anchors into the sea bottom. Installing anchors by hand, with two SCUBA divers. The major force to be resisted is buoyancy (straight up). Ideally the anchors would dependably resist 1 to 1.5 tonnes of upwards force.
(In a future installation, I’ll be experimenting with a dynamic weight driver - droppping a considerable weight from a boat, using inertia to drive the anchors. Less muscle, more depth.)
Concept:
This anchor is for driving (2.5” pipe) submarine anchors by hand into the sea bottom.
The pipe anchor will be situated by hand on the seabed,
then the anchor driver will be fit on the free end.
Driving force is produced by lifting the anchor driver and slamming it down on the end of the pipe.
The diver and driver are both weighted with multiple 20kg weights, to tolerance.
Using a driver is better than a sledge hammer because it’s easier to be accurate, thus there’s less damage to the anchor (and hands!)
