HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Now moored in the worlds oldest surviving dry dock in her home port of Portsmouth, England. HMS Victory is a living museum to the Georgian Navy. Her majesty's Ship Victory is the only surviving naval warship that represents the skill of naval dockyard shipwrights, ships designers and the industrial ability of Britain during the mid-18th Century.
On the 5th March 2012, custodianship of HMS Victory was transferred from the Ministry of Defence to the HMS Victory Preservation Trust, established as part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
HMS Victory continues to be a commissioned warship of the Royal Navy under her Commanding Officer and ship’s company and is the flagship of the First Sea Lord.
