American Airlines (1959) - Boeing 707-120

707
American Airlines was the first true transcontinental jet airline in the United States. Though the first commercial jet transcontinental flight in the United States was undertaken by National Airlines, the airplane used was a leased 707-120 from Pan Am. This was temporary service. But it was American Airlines which launched the first permanent jet service across the nation. By the early 1960s, the original 707s were converted to B standard with JT3D turbofans replacing the JT3C turbojets, which were so underpowered, they required water injection boosting. Fast forward to modern times, non of the Pan Am 707s are left, but there are at least 5 remaning American Airlines 707s from 1959 remaining. These are the last of the original transcontinental jet fleet and the oldest passenger 707s around. #707 #707100 #707120 #707123 #Airlines #American #Boeing #Flagship #Jet #JT3C #Missouri #N7515A
