The Pintados-class missile ship is armed with one 57mm 3P (Programmable, Proximity Fused, Programmed Detonation) to serve as anti-ship, anti-aircraft, and anti-personnel weapon of the ship, two quad RGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missile, eight cell VLS RIM-162 EEMS, and four M2 dual mount. It also have a deployment rack for sea mines and/or depth charges. Countermeasures are provided by the MASS soft-kill countermeasures by Rheinmetall.
The superstructure is made with aluminum steel, kevlar and balsa sandwiched between polycarbon apex glass to mask and reduce its radar cross section and to give the ship a lighter weight that allows it to move faster. Its propulsion is provided by two waterjets so the ship can operate in littoral zones and/or provide superior support in brown water operations. All outer superstructure are painted with radar absorbent material to make it harder to spot in the radar. Its lightweight and waterjet propulsion allow it to move faster and turn unconventionally.
Its namesake is from the Pintados which were known as fierce warriors and brave raiders in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era that have tattoos all over their body - one kill = one tattoo. It got the namesake because of the prominent markings in her superstructure and is heavily armed for her size.
