Has full kitchen and bathroom. 3 sleeping areas: two on second floor a twin bed on east bump-out and king bed on west bump-out. The third sleeping area is a 3rd floor loft to the north with a double bed. All three sleeping areas have 3 ganged 24x38 double hung windows bordering the bed so you feel outside. Each sleeping area has built-in storage- underneath the bed drawers and to the sides of the ganged windows. FOUNDATION: 4 ft deep poured concrete perimeter footing with integral slab floor over 1 1/2 inch rigid foam insulation. WALLS: 2x8 @ 24" o.c. with 8 inch wool insulation for a rating of R32. ROOF: 2x10 @ 24" o.c. with 2x2's laid perpendicular with 10 inch wool insulation and 1 1/2 inch rigid foam insulation for a rating of R50. PORCH: wraps three elevations and is framed with 6x6 rough cedar posts @ 8 ft o.c. uses 6x6 beams with 2x6 rough cedar rafters @ 24" o.c., 1/2" plywood sheathing. ROOFING: PermaFelt Silver synthetic felt under Midwest Manufacturing's Hidden Fastener 3/4" standing seam steel (building roof AND porch roof). FENESTRATION: windows and patio door are Pella Series 450 which are metal outside and wood inside. To insure excellent ventilation all windows are operable- including the 7 south facing clerestory windows above the porch. All Pella 450 series windows and door are "in stock" at Lowe's so the costs are 1/4 of custom windows. Each sleeping area uses 3 ganged 24x38 double hang windows. PLUMBING: standard septic with grey water system for collecting rain water from footprint via roof gutters into a 20K gallon cistern. ELECTRIC: 14 Trinasmart PD05 solar panels provides 3500W of power using 10 deep cell 12V batteries to store power. Water Heat from hybrid roof mount and in corn stove. The solar panels are attached using S-5! metal roof fastening system because it is the only mounting system that DOES NOT penetrate the roof, instead they clamp to the 3/4 inch standing seam. No inverter will be used only DC appliances, lighting and outlets. INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR FINISH: inside walls is 5 inch T&G flooring pine and ceiling is 6 inch T&G #2 pine. outside walls are combination of cedar shingles and Hardie clapboard siding (cement) with 5 inch exposure. HVAC: heat is provided by a rocket stove centered on the main floor. There is NO AC. The porch is for weather protection and solar gain control. Built as an experimental "tiny house" for developing and testing off-grid technologies-- such as water systems and DC based appliances (note ALL wall-wart appliances are DC based already such as LCD TV's, computers, telephones etc. The building will be used for housing summer interns and members visiting and working with us. #cabin #craftsmen #offgrid #tiny
