Star Of The Seine - N6902C - c/n 4016 This TWA L-1049 was delivered in 1951 as one of the first Super Connies ever built. Star Of The Seine was a constant subject of TWA postcards and pictures. A well loved part of the airline's fleet. She served valliantly up to 1956. While on a flight to Chicago from Los Angeles as TWA Flight 2, the Super Connie descended into the partly cloud covered canyon to give passengers a spectacular view. Without warning, United Airlines Flight 718, a Douglas DC-7, crashed into TWA Flight 2 shearing off its distinctive triple tail. Both airplanes crashed into the Grand Canyon in Arizona, killing all aboard both planes. For years it was the worst aviation disaster in history. Most of N6902C was removed from the Canyon floor in 1972, but pieces still remain to this day. Thanks to Pierre "Pappy" for the gear. #1956 #2 #Air #Airlines #Canyon #Collision #Connie #Constellation #Crash #Flight #Grand #L1049 #Lockheed #Mid #Midair #Plane #Super #Trans #TWA #World
