Jackson County Courthouse (1913)

Jackson County Courthouse (1913)

W_LeMay
This is a model of the most iconic building in my hometown, the 1913 Jackson County Courthouse in Sylva, North Carolina. The building terminates the vista of Main Street and is one of the most recognizable buildings in the region, and was based off the Madison County Courthouse in Marshall, North Carolina. This model shows how it would have looked upon its 1914 completion, before the steps and walkways were added. The courthouse has gone through a series of renovations, it was partially painted white in the 1940s and two additional windows cut into the third floor of the front facade, in the 1960s a major modernization effort saw a clock installed on the front face of the cupola and the entire building renovated and painted white. In the 1990s, it ceased to be used as a courthouse, and was renovated to ensure its survival, as the cupola was weak enough to plummet into the court room. In 2010, it was renovated again, restoring most original features and adding a large new wing on the rear to house the Jackson County Library. Today, the restored courthouse is home to various community groups, the County Library, and a History Museum. Credit goes to Allan Rodrigues for the Justice Statue and J. Mano for the Corinthian Columns. Feel free to use this model as you see fit, on the condition that you contact me first so I know where it is being used (I'd love to see it wherever it ends up), and give me a mention or credit wherever it is used or published. #Courthouse #NorthCarolina #HistoricArchitecture #Neoclassical
