The 81-story Book Tower is a proposed but unbuilt skyscraper which was to be built on the north side of State Street between Washington Boulevard and Park Place in downtown Detroit, adjacent to the current Book Tower. The Book family has left their mark on Washington Boulevard and this tower would've been the most visible. Designed by Louis Kamper in the late 1920's, it was never built because of the economic conditions of the United States that would set off shortly afterwards. However, had it actually been built, it would be the tallest building in the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan, surpassing the Renaissance Center by nearly 200 feet for a height of about 930 feet. Additionally, it would be the second-tallest building in the Midwestern United States outside of Chicago with only the Key Tower in Cleveland surpassing it by 18 feet, and, at the time it would've been built, the 81-story Book Tower would've been the tallest building in the world and would've held that title until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York in early 1931. Today, the site on which this would've been built on is occupied by a two-story structure from the 1930's which was most recently used as a clinic. Feel free to use this in your models, but please do not re-upload this and claim that you made it, that model will be reported to Trimble if it is done. #architecture #building #Detroit #downtown #Michigan #office #skyscraper #tower #unbuilt #United_States #US
