MODERN INTERPRETATION OF A CLASSIC
Axel is our interpretation of the original flat track sliding barn door hardware that has been in use for over one hundred years. Axel utilizes the same raw steel material and track construction as those original systems, but has been redesigned to be quieter, safer, and more durable. Exposed 3” custom-engineered bearings, and rugged visible fasteners create a product with a beautiful raw edge, and the same clean, modern aesthetic you expect from a Krownlab product.
SOLID STEEL CONSTRUCTION
Made of 1/4" thick carbon steel, Axel is fabricated to showcase the natural, untouched beauty of this industrial material. Solid steel construction ensures that Axel will continue to function as smoothly and quietly in ten years as it does the day you install it. Axel is available in Raw Steel, which will patina wonderfully with age and use, and in Black Steel, which will maintain its matte black appearance without chipping or flaking.
FIELD MODIFIABLE
Axel comes in three convenient lengths, perfectly suited for several common door sizes. Being made of carbon steel, however, means that Axel track is easy to cut and drill on the job site, allowing you the flexibility to use any combination of door panels and door openings. This field adjustability allows us to ship all Axel products within a few days of your order regardless of size or finish. Considered design and simple step-by-step installation instructions makes Axel easy and quick to install.
FOR PANELS UP TO 200 LBS
Axel is compatible with door panel weighing up to 200 lbs, giving you the flexibility to work with door panels of almost any size and material. The steel-on-steel contact surface between the bearing and the track ensures that any door glide smoothly and quietly year after year. As with all our hardware systems, Axel’s patent pending design makes it virtually impossible for a door to become dislodged from the track. Axel is compatible with door panels 1-3/8” to 1-3/4” in thickness.
RAW STEEL
Our Raw Steel finish is exactly what the name suggests: raw, untouched carbon steel straight from the mill. Likely to have gouges, scratches, mill scale, water marks, and rust, Raw Steel is our most industrial finish, and our most field-customizable: Spray with salt and water to accelerate rusting, or sand with an industrial Scotch-Brite pad to achieve a linear grain appearance. Tested to 130,000 open-and-close cycles, Raw Steel will stand the test of high-use commercial environments. To stave off rust, we recommend applying WD-40 to this finish as needed.
BLACK STEEL
As with our Black Stainless finish, Black Steel is not a paint or powder coat (which are likely to chip or flake under the point-load of sliding hardware). Instead, this premium finish is etched into the surface of the material. Tested to 130,000 open-and-closed cycles, Black Steel is suitable for high-use commercial environments. We recommend periodically wiping our Black Steel products with a small dab of petroleum jelly to enhance the depth and shine of the finish.
