Vintage Kentucky Fried Chicken

Vintage Kentucky Fried Chicken

W_LeMay
A model of a 1960s-era Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant based very closely off several former KFC locations built in the 1960s in the United States. Today, many of these early fast food restaurants have been closed and/or altered, and many have seen their iconic circus-tent roofs and cupolas removed. Buildings like this could once be found in many suburban and rural communities in the United States. However, quite a few KFC restaurants looked very different than this, as the KFC Franchise was known to have restaurants under varying names and that varied quite a bit more in appearance and standards than other early fast food restaurants, a trend which continued until the 1980s when the chain became more standardized and many of the non-standardized restaurants were replaced with newer stores or outright closed. However, this was a very common design during the early years of KFC. The design of these iconic restaurant buildings helped catapult Kentucky, Colonel Sanders, and the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain into national consciousness, and helped the franchise grow from a small motel and restaurant in Corbin to the massive internationally recognized franchise it is today. Thanks to ASNorristown and mr.man for several model components and details. Feel free to use this model as you see fit, on the condition that you contact me first so I know where it is being used (I'd love to see it wherever it ends up), and give me a mention or credit wherever it is used or published. #KFC #RetroArchitecture #KentuckyFriedChicken #VanishedAmerica
