This statue of Oliver Cromwell, on Cromwell Green at the Palace of Westminster, was sculpted in 1899 by Hamo Thornycroft. Although Cromwell is noted for turning Britain into a republic, he is also a controversial figure in history because of his involvement in ordering the deaths of many catholics, almost bordering on genocide. He is still universally hated by catholics today.
____About the model: The Google Earth terrain of the green is actually around 2.5m too high (It is actually well below the level of the road), and for this reason the new visitor centre ramp has been omitted from the model. The texturing on the rear of the lion and Cromwell are assumed, since it is not possible to get a photo to do this (Perhaps my local MP can help?) Thank you for reading. #Britain #Cromwell #England #Lion #London #Oliver #Sculpture #UK #Westminster
