This project was perhaps a bit disappointing for Willem Marinus Dudok (1884-1974). What looked to be his entry to the international design stage ended up being cut back and modified to be almost unrecognizable as a Dudok building. His somewhat despondent comment that “one should still see that I made it” seems to indicate it did not turn out as grand as he had originally hoped. His original design had 2 theatres with opulent lounge spaces that bridged across Humayan Place. It had a very Dudok feel. The building as-built contains one movie theatre with lobby lounges, a restaurant, extensive street front retail, offices, and some residential. The building was further modified when the theatre closed in 2002, and is now a hypermart retail mall. It is hardly recognizable. The model is based on archived schematic design drawings. As colours and textures were not clearly identified and have since been completely lost, most surfaces were left neutral. I apologize for any misinterpretation.
