This is a model of a Big Kmart as a standalone building, based on the former Big Kmart Store in Waynesville, NC. The store was opened in the late 1980s or early 1990s, at a time when Kmart was trying to rebrand itself and refresh its image to better compete with Wal-Mart and Target, which were starting to impact its sales and status as the king of big box, suburban-style discount retail. The Big Kmart in the model is home to a Pharmacy, Western Union Services, K-Cafe, and a Garden Shop, and is about 100,000 square feet.
