This ruin is what remains of the gate house of St. Benet's Abbey. During the later half of the 18th Century, a windmill was built inside the ruin, and the upper floor of the gate house was removed to allow room for the sails. The windmill is now itself a part of the ruin, having ceased operating around the 1860's. The abbey was the only one in England to escape the Dissolution of the Monasteries Act, during the reign of king Henry VIII. However, it soon after went into decline and was abandoned. It is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Please see the page on Wikipedia for more information on the Abbey, and the Norfolk Mills web page to see some paintings, engravings and Victorian photographs of the windmill as it was. About the model: This is my first attempt at a fully seamless texture on a cone shape. The texture was stitched from three photos that are not a great match, and therefore it could still be improved further with better photos. The current result is however, much better than before. #Abbey #Broads #England #Norfolk #Ruin #St_Benets #United_Kingdom #windmill
