The tower is located in Tampere, on Pyynikinharju ridge. The tower was completed in 1929, to honour the city's 150th anniversary. A cafe selling popular sugar doughnuts is located on the base of the tower.
The tower itself reaches only 26 metres, but the actual elevation is almost 190 metres from sealevel and a bit over 110 metres from the nearby lake Pyhäjärvi.
