Holmes-Bates style Stereoscope; "The Stereo-Gothard" was sold only by the American Stereoscopic Company. The viewer was clearly designed specifically for tissue views (the box portion which most viewers don't have) although it is entirely suitable for paper and glass views of the standard size. Patented by R. Y. Young, 1901 - see underside of wooden part of viewer (Scene 2 of model) for stamped patent date info. The design pattern on the hood is acid etched and there is also an embossed world globe with outline of North/South American continents and the following words
