12a Carillon Bells

12a Carillon Bells

Bill M.
The 732-bell Stone Mountain Carillon is located lakeside in the heart of beautiful Stone Mountain Park. The Carillon was built by Schulmerich Carillons in Sellersville PA for the 1964 World's Fair Coco-Cola Pavilion in New York. The Stone Mountain Carillon is actually a three-part structure. The most obvious is a particularly unique and amazing bell tower structure located on the tip of a peninsula and rising majestically nearly 200 feet above the water. But hidden among a thick stand of Georgia Pines is the Carillon Console where the performer, a Carillonneur, is seated at a keyboard console not unlike those used with pipe organs. Then surrounding the Console is a stadium where guests may sit and casually listen to beautiful daily concerts designed to please young and old for reflection and inspiration. For over three decades Carillonneur, Mabel Sansing Sharp, has treated audiences to spectacular performances of the songs "Clare Delune", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "Amazing Grace", and "Georgia" along with many other songs and hymns. A very special thank you to Ms. Mabel for all of the wonderful memories! The carillon is the heaviest of all musical instruments and arguably one of the most interesting by design. #33484750N_84_8813W #Carillon_Bells #Stone_Mountain_Memorial_Park
