The Newton pendulum is a particular pendulum, consisting of various spheres (usually five), which is used to illustrate the laws of conservation of the amount of motion and energy.
The Newton pendulum is made up of a set of metal waves of equal mass suspended with two-rod horizontal and parallel metal wires. The spheres, resting, touch, are at the same height and are equidistant from the rods. At the Balì Museum you can find these spheres hanging on the ceiling.
History
The Newton pendulum, which is used today as a toy or physical demonstration elementary and middle school experiment, contributed to clarifying the laws of elasticity before the principles of dynamics were enunciated. It is worth noting that even in this case the famous law of Stigler's epic is not violated: Newton did not have any role in the design of this apparatus, which was built by Robert Hooke (with three spheres) and was used by him For demonstration experiments at the Royal Society's meetings of November 1666.
Operation
If you drop one or more balls against the other, the one at the opposite end moves at the same speed, while the thrown stops and the intermediate moves. If the spheres are more than three and if they drop two, they will start the two at the opposite end, and so on.
