Boxwood is a shrub and woody plant, widely used for topiary, due to its numerous qualities. Its dark green foliage is resistant and regenerates well from biannual pruning. If you want an authentic French garden you can't do without boxwood in hedges, borders and topiaries, but you must be patient, as its growth is relatively slow compared to other shrubs. With time and good formation pruning, it becomes quite compact and dense.
