The Cross of Sacrifice at the Airborne War Cemetry in Oosterbeek. The cemetry was commissioned June 1945 by the CWGC and holds the bodies of those who fell during operation Market Garden from the 17th september 1944 to 25th of september 1944. 1678 British, 8 Dutch and 73 Poles soldiers are buried in this cemetry, 3 of whom are Victora Cross recipients. The cross made out of Portland Stone adorning a bronze sword. The cross commemorates those who fell in Holland but are still reported missing. Up till present day the bodies of those who fought are found in the area, when identified usually are placed in the cemetry. A pleasant cemetry with nearby the Air Despatch Memorial and a civilian cemetry in which also some Airborne personel are burried. #1st_airborne #airborne #airborne_museum #arnhem #cross #memorial #monument #oosterbeek #statue
