G. L.
An exact reproduction of a US army hardtack crate used during the american civil war made to specifications entirely from 10"x1" lumber and 17" pieces of 4"x1" reinforcing the lid. Each seam of the box is tacked together with 6 1.5" Cut nails, 3 into each plank. 2 Half Inch wide bands of green sapling( split half inch dia sapling vertically) wrapped around the ends to reinforce closure during shipping. Box is stenciled with Army Bread, MFG name, Depot and packing date. you can disassemble the box entirely if you wish to create a woodcraft project from the box, Although this box shipped unfinished you may wish to use a matte finish if you intend to use the box outdoors. Reenactors wanting to use the box for storage might consider a 24" piano hinge in one of the 26" seams. If you boil the cut nails in vinegar they will turn black instead of rusting with age.
