An Empire Russian Sofa or Settee, ca. 1815 to 1820. Mahogany frame and period silk upholstery over horsehair stuffing.
Inspired by the conquests of France, the furniture of this period was a sort of propaganda for war, The heavy frames were many times decorated with gilt bronze pieces symbolizing annexed cultures; i.e., Egypt, Italy and Rome, and Greece.
The columns have been fixed and several fragments that were caught in the casters' groups have been removed. If there are any other issues please let me know! This is my most popular model to date. Thank you for the many 'likes' and for using and enjoying the model!
