Virgin Atlantic Airways was founded as 'British Atlantic Airways' by Richard Branson, Randolph Fields, and Alan Hellary to fly between London and the Falkland Islands but never flew under its initial name. The first Virgin Atlantic flight operated on 22 June 1984 from London Gatwick to Newark using a leased Boeing 747-200. Since then, the airline operates from London Heathrow, Manchester Airport, and seasonally from Edinburgh. They will operate 16 Airbus A330-941s.
