The FR04 MkX is a Class 2 Faster-than-light Reactor, used on ships in the ICF fleet to travel faster than the speed of light. It is used on medium to large ships, where an individual FTL Reactor is needed. Smaller sized ships have no use for their own FTL Reactor, because they can use the same FTL Fold Sequence as the other larger ships (often called a "mass-fold-jump", where more than one ship jumps in the same FTL Sequence). The reactor module itself is heavily armored to protect the FTL core, which can be purged from the ship in emergency situations. When purging, the reactor is disconnected and the back-hatch is opened to safely eject the core.
