In 1926, IBM developed their 80-column punch card that would become the industry standard data input / output data card for calculating machines and computers thru the 1980s. Then, in 1969, IBM introduced their Mag Card Selectric Typewriter which utilized a new Mylar-based magnetic card identical in size to the familiar IBM punched cards, to store typed text for modification, retrieval or storage using a small external mag-card control console. This model compares the IBM 80-column punch card with the newer IBM Mag-card.
