This engine is internal combustion version of Beauchamp Tower's spherical steam engine. Notice the holes (ports) on the outer shell. lower one is the intake port, upper one is the exhaust port. Also note that there is a slit carved into the outer shell between the two halves, that is the transfer port. Notice that almost all the time the intake port will open to an 'expanding' chamber therefore the engine will perform a sucking action from the intake port. Right after the chamber reaches its maximum volume the transfer port opens a connection between another chamber (that chamber is at its medium volume expanding. When the volume of the original chamber is reduced to its minimum the destination chamber has exceeded its maximum and already started compression, at which point the transfer port closes. From then on the compression progresses to its minimum volume (maximum compression) at which point ignition will occur and power will be transferred to the now expanding volume. The power stroke will end as the exhaust port opens and so on...
