'Museum het Valkhof' is the museum for contemporary art and archeology in Nijmegen, containing art from several ages. It originated from two other museums; G.M. Kam museum of archaeology and the Commanderie van St. Jan museum of classical and modern art. A large collection of local Roman pieces is the most extensive and important. Some famous temporarily exhibitions, like that of 'gebroeders van Limburg' and 'Herculaneum' attract lots of visitors. The building is a design by UN Studio from Amsterdam. It was build in 1998, opened in 1999, and it is located on the Kelfkensbos, near the Valkhofpark, a place where once stood a Roman militairy camp.
