Canterbury Cathedral is a World Heritage Site in Canterbury, Kent, England. Though there has been a cathedral on the site since 602 AD, construction on the present cathedral was begun in 1170. The final addition to the cathedral was the northwest tower in 1834. Canterbury Cathedral is the seat of the Church of England. Its most historic moment was the murder of St. Thomas Becket by the Knights of King Henry II in 1170. Becket’s martyrdom and subsequent canonization instantly made Canterbury Cathedral one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Christianity. #Canterbury #Cathedral #Catholic #Church_of_England #Gothic #Kent #Norman #Religious #united_Kingdom
