Southsea Common Car Park

Southsea Common Car Park

Helen L.
Found a little time to add a basic model to get people thinking about the parking issues within Portsmouth. At Gunwharf Quays they showed it is possible to build a two floor car park below the ground without the sea coming in... my thinking is that such a build could happen below a part of Southsea Common. Eek I know kill me now! There has been a gradual spread of parking areas across the common and I feel an underground car park similar in size to the Gunwharf of around 1,500 spaces would enable the clearing of above ground parking and re-green a corner of the common long since lost under cars. The Car Park would be on two levels, the lower being the entrance accessed by the down ramp. Cars would then use another ramp inside to the top level and leave the car park via another ramp. To control fumes and any flooding the pillars are hollow from top to bottom and are taken away using a sump type system below the ground floor and removed in the building at the west end by the entrance. The whole site would be turfed over to hide it from view. Pedestrians can gain access to the common via lifts and gain access to the promenade using one of two walkways the pass under the road again with lifts giving access to the surface. As before I'm not an architect this is just a bit of fun to get people thinking about the places they live. Hope you enjoy Helen x #Car_parking #parking #Portsmouth #seafront #Southsea #Southsea_Common #uk #underground
