The majestic Winthrop Hall is the jewel in the crown of The University of Western Australia.
It is named after the first Chancellor and principal benefactor, Sir John Winthrop Hackett.
Entry to the hall is through an internal wrought iron gateway and across a foyer with a mosaic floor crafted of marble from across Europe.
The east wall features a giant Rose Window modeled after the rose window of the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi.
The Hall is also home to the largest pipe organ (2,712 pipes) in Western Australia.
The massive beams supporting the ceiling of Winthrop hall are decorated with Aboriginal-style motifs.
Around the Hall, on jarrah paneling, the Coats of Arms of major Australian and international universities are displayed.
