Located in Azadi Square ,Tehran, Azadi (Freedom) Tower was built in 1971 to commemorate the 2500th Anniversary of the Persian Empire. Designed by Architect, Hossein Amanat , it was the winning entry of a competition for the "Gateway into Iran" and was intended to symbolise the achievements of modern Iran. The Tower was originally named the Shahyad Tower (Kings' Memorial) before being dubbed Azadi Tower after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The White Marble stone structure was constructed using calculations from a computer & was supervised by Iran's finest master stonemason, Ghaffar Davarpanah Varnosfaderani.
