Nel 1960, su richiesta dell' importatore statunitense, la Ducati progettò una moto da 250cc per il mercato USA, adatta all' impiego stradale e fuori strada . Venne messa in vendita nel 1962, seguì nel 1967 la versione 350cc. In Europa venne messa in vendita la nuova "Scrambler 450" nel 1969 e ottenne un successo notevole.
