Model of the imperial cathedral for 3D printing. #3DBCmodelgarden Mainz Cathedral is the Episcopal Church of the diocese of Mainz and is dedicated to St. Martin of Tours. The cathedral dates back to a construction by Bishop Willigis started around 975. It was destroyed in a fire already at its consecration day on 29.8.1009. Until 1036, the cathedral was rebuilt by bishop Bardo as a romanesque pillar basilica. After a lightning strike had burned the wooden roof of the lantern tower in 1767, the bishop requested the new tower to be fire-proof, and so architect Franz Ignaz Michael Neumann designed the unique multi-story baroque tower made of red sandstone.
