3.1.7 SP and SPH Series Stud Plate Connectors: The SP1 connector fastens one edge of a wood stud to the contiguous edge of a wood sill plate, and the SP2 connector fastens to one side of a wood double top plate and to the contiguous edge of a wood stud. The SP4, SP6, SP8, SPH4, SPH6, and SPH8 are 11/4-inch-wide (32 mm) U-shaped straps with a horizontal portion that bears against the wood wall top plates or sill plates and two vertical legs that are nailed to the edges of a wood stud. The SP and SPH connectors are fabricated from No. 20 and No. 18 gage galvanized steel, respectively.
