A model of a 20 foot diameter roundhouse. This house is 20 feet in diameter from outside wall to outside wall and features 18 inch thick cordwood walls that are 2 feet 8 inches in height on a concrete slab foundation (or rubble trench and cob for non-seismically active areas). Next, 18 inch thick straw bale walls are built on top of the cordwood base to a total height of 9 feet. The walls are topped with a living roof, or if preferred, the structure can be capped with 2x10 joists, 3/4 inch roof sheathing, and a roofing material of choice, braced by a central log column. The house features a full size bathroom, kitchen with half-size fridge and cook top, and a sleeping loft with a queen size bed accessed by a spiral stair around the central column. The home is heated with a wood stove. The living area features built in seating and a fold up table for dining.
