Berthier M1916 carbine was shorter version of Berthier Mle.1907. Early models of Mle.1916 wasn't equiped with upper handguard, had 3 rounds magazines like Mle.1907 and also sling mount on buttstock was identical to this from normal rifle. Carbine versions was used mostly by artillery crews.
