In1994 the Airbus A321-100s, for the development of the medium-haul, entered the fleet.
The Airbus A321 is the first of the aircraft of the European Airbus family (with the exception of the A300 in 1980) to renew the Alitalia fleet. Within a few years, the Airbus A320-200s will arrive in 1999 and the Airbus A319-100s in 2002.
The configuration chosen by the airline was initially unique of 171 seats in 2 classes (37 First class and 134 Economy class), but over the years it was replaced by a new configuration of 200-seat for domestic flights in single class and one with 186 seats, in double class (28 Ottima and 158 Classic) for international flights.
