The EMD SD70MAC is a six axle diesel electric locomotive. The locomotive was introduced in 1993 and was in production until 2004, and is the AC counterpart to the EMD SD70M. These locomotives used an EMD 710 prime mover and were capable of producing 4,000 horsepower. After the EPA set new emissions standards in 2004, the SD70MAC was subsequently replaced with the SD70ACe in the catalog.
The Burlington Northern Railway (BN), later the BNSF Railway, would roster a total of 786 SD70MACs. The final orders of the Burlington Northern's SD70MACs would wear what is known as the Executive paint scheme, also known as Grinstein Green, after the BN's business train. Many of such locomotives can still be seen wearing the Executive green livery. Some of BNSF's SD70MACs still serve on revenue freight trains, though many are either in storage, or sold off to lessors.
