The Keage second hydroelectric power station was built simultaneously with the second Lake Biwa canal in 1912 after the first hydroelectric power station for enterprises in Japan, "the Keage first hydroelectric power station" was built in 1891. Electric power was supplied to the street car and factories in Kyoto by it and it contributed to development of Kyoto so much.
After World War II Kyoto University used its inside as radiation research facility for a certain period and it was changed greatly. But the appearance has left the image of old days.
