World Trade Center Construction

PROTEGE
**First Model of the Construction of the ORIGINAL World Trade Center** The Original World Trade Center started construction in 1966, and was completed in 1971. It was the World's Tallest Building, and the World's Largest Office Complex. The North Tower started construction first, followed by the South Tower. In December 1970, the North Tower was topped off. Then in July 1971, the South Tower was topped off. Little do people know, that the North Tower is 6 feet taller than the South Tower! The North Tower (One World Trade Center) is 1,368 feet tall, and the South Tower (2 World Trade Center) is 1,362. The Twin Towers were the first buildings in the United States to incorporate the "Slurry Wall" Construction Method. Huge Metal Frames were installed on each side of each tower. This will serve as the outer wall of the building. Each Tower is supported by a solid strong central core containing solid steel for support. It is amazing that it took 5 years to build the World Trade Center, and only a couple seconds for it to be destroyed.
