Introduced in 2173, the Wasp-class starship was a Starfleet Exploratory Cruiser design developed to correct problems with the previous Daedalus-class starships, which included insufficient crew and scientific facilities, and safety problems with the ships’ emergency warp core separation system. The Wasp-class would include a much larger spherical command hull housing all essential ship functions and facilities, including the ship’s impulse drive system, while isolating the warp core / anti-matter storage to the engineering hull, allowing its’ full emergency hull separation to a distance of 5,000 km within 5 minutes should a warp core breach occur. However, Wasp class maneuverability problems coupled with less than anticipated warp speed capability would result in the rapid development and launch of the improved next generation Moskva class starship in 2177. This model represents the USS Bushnell NCC-232, the tenth Wasp Class starship in the series, and was created by David Metlesits.
