Two proposed rockets for NASA's Contellation program. ARES I will be used for low Earth orbit missions but can also be used in conjunction with the ARES V for lunar missions. ARES I is a two-stage rocket with the Orion crew capsule on top. ARES I will be used to transport up to 6 astronauts the International Space Station. ARES V is a larger payload rocket with components capable of reaching the Moon. ARES V can contain the Altair Lunar Lander in its nose shroud.
