The GE Dash 8-40CW, also known as the C40-8W, is a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive manufactured from 1989 to 1994. The C40-8W rides on GE's Flexicoil C trucks. This unit is capable of producing 4,000 HP and has a top speed of 70 mph.
Conrail, or Consolidated Rail Corporation, purchased 236 Dash 8s, numbered 6050 to 6285. These units were divided between Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation following the Conrail split in 1999. All the ex. Conrail Dash 8 locomotives on CSX's system have been put into storage, while NS has retired, sold and scrapped their Dash 8 locomotives.
