John Portman’s Hyatt Regency in Atlanta is 40 years old this year, and it is easy to imagine the stunned and awed reactions of those who first walked into the enormous 22-story, skylit atrium with it’s bank of glass elevators (the interior atrium is not included in this model). It was science fiction come alive. Adding to the space-age feel is the revolving restaurant made of blue Plexiglas on top of the building.
