BLUR BUILDING at Exposition Pavilion for Swiss Expo, Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, 2002. An architecture of atmosphere- a fog mass resulting from natural and man made forces. Water is pumped from Lake Neuchatel, filtered, and shot as a fine mist through 35,000 high-pressure nozzles... Upon entering Blur, visual and acoustic references are erased. There is only an optical "white-out" and the "white-noise" of pulsing nozzles... Blur is decidedly low-definition. In this exposition pavilion there is nothing to see but our dependence on vision itself... The lightweight tensegrity structure measures 300 feet wide by 200 feet deep by 75 feet high and is supported by four columns. MODEL: This file is a 'placeholder' model with a plan and two sections of the structure, located more or less in the correct location of the 2002 Swiss Expo. Hope to have time to model this later, but feel free to take on the project and create the model yourself. For more information (and better drawings) of the building look for the book: 'Blur: The Making of Nothing' http://www.amazon.com/Blur-Making-Nothing-Elizabeth-Diller/dp/0810921235 I'm also interested in creating a translucent shifting cloud shape similar to the animated London Eye model, see: http://www.barnabu.co.uk/london-eye-millennium-wheel-animation/ Architects website: http://www.dillerscofidio.com/ Swiss Expo 2002: http://www.expo-archive.ch/ #2002 #animation #Architect #architecture #Bains #BLUR #BUILDING #cloud #depthless #Diller #dimensionless #dynamic #Expo #Exposition #featureless #fog #formless #Lake #les #massless #mist #Neuchatel #Pavilion #plan #scaleless #Scofidio #section #structure #surfaceless #Swiss #Switzerland #tensegrity #unbuilt #water #Yverdon
