Sited in Muskoka on a clearing in the woods, The days are hot, the nights are cold, and the mosquitos bite. Concrete blocks rise like granite bedrock eons ago, Sheltered as tarpaulin fly’s overhead, cooking and reading. Step to wooden floor, enclosed by hanging mesh, Sit atop stone warmed by hypocaust fire, And roll into bed. Chimney-smoke is rising, Sign of life below, Gable’s softly glowing, Nowhere feels like home.
