The history of the design of the Met complex reads like a who’s who of American architecture. The original building by Calvert Vaux was Gothic in conception. Richard Morris Hunt designed the central, Fifth Avenue, Beaux-Arts façade (1902). The wings of the same façade are by McKim, Mead & White (1906). Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo Associates oversaw a massive expansion of the museum in the 1970s and 1980s. #AIA #AIA_150 #art #building #landmark #landmarks #Manhattan #museum #New_York #NY #painting #paintings #sculpture
