Supermarine Seaplane, S6B S1595. Designed by R. J. Mitchell, the designer of the S series of seaplane racers, many other seaplanes, flying boats and the Supermarine Spitfire. This is the Trophy winning and World Air Speed record holding S6B. The original resides in the Science Museum in London. It was powered by the supercharged Rolls-Royce R engine, R29, of 2240 cu.in, or 37 litres. Running on a cocktail fuel of benzole, methanol, acetone, and a dash of TEL. It could produce 2783 hp, but was derated to less than 2530 hp for the race. The wing was double skinned so that the entire surfaces were used as a radiator. Oil cooling used tubes in the fuselage sides. Not only did the aircraft win the 1931 Schneider Trophy, but also, two weeks later, became the fastest vehicle on earth, setting an absolute World air speed record of 407.5 mph. The R Engine simultaneously held World air, land, and water speed records in 1932. The model has dynamic prop and canopy. #Dynamic #Mitchell #R_Engine #Racer #Rolls #Royce #S6 #Schneider #Seaplane #Supercharger #Supermarine #Trophy
