The Fairey Gannet AS.1 was introduced into service with the British Royal Navy in 1954 to replace the aging Douglas Skyraider in the anti-submarine role. It had a unique double turbo prop Armstong Siddeley Double Mamba twin engine driving individual contra rotating props. Either engine could be shut down in the cruise to extend range and conserve fuel. The model has many dynamic parts, double folding wings, retracting under-carriage, retracting radar 'dustbin', moving cockpit canopy, moving arrestor hook, rotating props and opening bomb bay doors.
